About Bloggers Unite
Bloggers Unite is a community that cares.
Bloggers Unite is an attempt to harness the power of the blogosphere to make the world a better place. By asking bloggers to write about a particular subject on 1 day of the month, a single voice can be joined with thousands to help make a difference; from raising awareness for cancer, to an effort to better education systems or supporting 3rd world countries.
How It All Began
Back in early 2007 Antony Berkman was the CEO of BlogCatalog.com, a social network and blog directory whose mission was to deliver the most amazing collection of bloggers to the type of audience who love and crave new blogs. With BlogCatalog designer Oscar Tijerina and his brother, programmer Daniel Tijerina, Berkman began working on an idea to use the large network of bloggers for a force of good. The idea was simple, the BlogCatalog team would pick a topic and ask bloggers to participate on a single day to raise awareness about a particular cause. Within a week the BlogCatalog team began creating a landing page and organizing the very first Bloggers Unite Challenge.
On July 18th 2007 the Donor Awareness Campaign became the very first attempt at using the blogosphere to collectively spread the word about a topic for the good of mankind. Seven campaigns and a year and a half later bloggersunite.org was launched to help spread the word even further.
Today, BloggersUnite continues to branch out, giving any user the resources to create and manage a campaign of their own no matter how big or small. We believe that no cause should go unnoticed and we strive to help bloggers find new and exciting ways to use the blogosphere for good because together, we CAN make a difference.
Meet The Team
CEO / iPhone Addict
Antony Berkman (or Tony as everyone else knows him) is the main man behind Bloggers Unite. Although best known for his nocturnal working habits, Tony is actually a pretty normal guy. You would most likely bump into him at line at the local Starbucks or taking his two dogs, Rocky and Ariela (regulars in the BC offices), for a walk in the evenings. Legend has it that Tony was quite the party animal back in his college years, but these days you're more likely to find him surfing the Web or tapping away at his precious iPhone (which some say he has had surgically grafted to his right hand) all night long. In any case, Tony is just one of those all around nice people. Bloggers Unite is glad to have him.
Lead Programmer / Pizza Connoisseur
Daniel is the guy who keeps Bloggers Unite ticking from day to day. A programmer with affinity for finding bad movies and good pizza, he spends most of his days chained to his desk. When not eating or programming, Daniel spends most of his free time collecting records, watching movies, parachuting naked into volcanoes, or finding an excuse to go for a drive (most people think he is having a love affair with his VW). While by far the youngest member of the team, Daniel is also one of the most important aspects of Bloggers Unite. Always the perfectionist, he is constantly adding, improving, and updating to make things perfect.
UI Design /
Owner / Internet Junkie
If Bloggers Unite were a person, Angelica Alaniz would be the heart pumping things forward. A self-proclaimed Internet junkie, Angelica (or Angie as we call her) is best known for her big heart, over-the-top food ordering skills (we haven't found a table big enough for everything yet), talking to customers, ordering expensive wine for herself (while teasing Daniel to drink with her), and NEVER EVER remembering her password. Although she spends most of her time making sure that the rest of the team is well taken care of, she has also been known to make sandwiches for the homeless folks downtown. As a dedicated mom, Angie always puts family first, bringing some much needed personality and adventure to the group of introverted guys that she works with (we fear the outdoors). While her dream life may include a beach house on a private island, Angie strives to make every day in the office a personal vacation.
Consultant / Resident Hack
Rich is the collaborator who enjoys driving us all crazy. Any time anything happens with Bloggers Unite, he wants to research it, track it, map it, and give it a deadline. That's not to say he is over analytic (maybe a little). He's surprisingly easygoing anytime we visit him in Las Vegas or overhear he and Tony giggling like two teenage girls for hours on the phone. While most people know Rich for his passion for anything nonprofits, eclectic writing styles, and mustache, he always likes to mix things up. He's the only person we know who can come home from the gym, cook a gourmet meal, and then overstuff his iTunes library with everything from lectures from Stanford to new singles by the Blakes, Cliks, and Mountain Goats. (We never heard of those bands either.)
Bloggers Like You!
Member / Community Activist
Lets face it, the most important part of Bloggers Unite are the bloggers themselves. Without bloggers like you none of this could be possible. We at Bloggers Unite are proud to be a part of a movement to make the blogosphere a vehicle for greatness. We as bloggers have not only the opportunity but the ability to spread the word about organizations and topics like no other group or organization has ever been able to before. Our reach is worldwide and our information is shared instantly over the world wide web. The BloggersUnite team want to thank you for your participation and we welcome you into our family. A single voice can only yell so loud but an entire blogoshpere can make a difference like never before. Let's change the world together.
