DESCRIPTION: World Suicide Prevention Day will be celebrated again on September 10, 2011    It is our third annual event at Bloggers Unite.      The themes of the last two years of the World Suicide Prevention Day have focussed on suicide prevention in different cultures across the world.    This year's theme aims at raising awareness of the fact that all countries in the world are multicultural.    Many countries harbour different minority groups, in the form of various indigenous and/or immigrant groups, refugees and/or asylum seekers.     Some countries comprise many different ethnic groups due to artificial borders having been drawn by former colonial powers. This means that in all countries there are a variety of ethnic and religious groups living in the same society.       The event provides an opportunity to remind people that suicide is influenced by cultural, religious, legal, historical, philosophical and traditional factors.      Suicide is a leading cause of death for people under 25 . Every year 1 million people die each year of suicide.    We at Bloggers Unite have the opportunity , because of the diversity of the members to join with IASP and WHO to focus public attention on suicide across the world.    With the  International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), WHO and other partners advocate for the prevention of suicidal behaviour, provision of adequate treatment and follow-up care for people who attempted suicide, as well as responsible reporting of suicides in the media.     Members will be writing posts on suicide and suicide prevention in their part of the world.    The organizer is an online consumer health educator.
