Run for Water 2010

4/20/10

by: cloudnwater

6km is the average distance women and children walk every day in the developing world to have access to water.

Currently, close to one billion people don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water (one in eight). 1.8 million people die every year from water-related diarrheal diseases. Ninety percent of those are children under five years of age. 443 million school days are missed due to water-related diarrheal diseases. Fifty percent of malnutrition is caused by water-related diarrheal diseases

This is why we run.

I participated in the Dow Live Earth Run for water 2010 on 18th April to support the cause. Money raised from the event will go towards funding water purification and filtration solutions around the world.

Make Noise for the Millennium Development Goal 7 Environmental Sustainability

4/19/10

by: briandrpm

Between now and 17 September 2010 you can make any day Earth Day in support of the global community by writing in support of Millennium Development Goal 7. Environmental Sustainability. The United Nations General Assembly will be holding a High-level Plenary Meeting, also referred to as the ‘MDG Summit’ in New York. The Summit’s main focus will be to build on what we have learned during the past 10 years since the adoption of the Millennium Declaration and how to accelerate progress towards the internationally agreed development goals, in particular MDGs. The Summit will take stock of the successes, best practices, lessons learned, obstacles and gaps related to the MDGs and other development goals. You can also support any of the other 7 Millennium Development Goals at Make Noise of the Millennium Development Goals bit.ly/amapeN

Earth Day 2010: What Mark Will You Leave On Earth?

4/18/10

by: earthlingorgeous

I’m sure you are aware that our environment is acting weird lately, summer days are hotter than usual, rainy days are drowning places we never imagined it could, earthquakes are everywhere, volcanoes are being active again, bird and sea creature migrations are getting weirder.

On April 22, 2010 the world will celebrate the 40th year of Earth Day, more than ever though our planet is in a greater peril. Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. This is our chance to grab our opportunity into turning our world, our only one planet earth into a healthy, clean energy and prosperous economy for our children and our children’s children.

Earth Day -- April 22 -- each year is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment.

Earth Day, celebrated in the US on April 22, is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-Wisconsin) as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. This date is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. "The earth is in greater peril than ever, but there is also unprecedented opportunity to build a new future. Earth Day has the power to bring about historic advances in climate policy, renewable energy and green jobs and catalyze millions who make personal commitments to sustainability - “A Billion Acts of Green” – mobilizing the power of people to create change by taking small steps in our homes, our schools and our businesses that add up to an enormous collective action." http://www.earthday.net/earthday2010 How can you help? *Share this, and other information about Earth Day, with your blog readers so that we can all harness the power of the blogosphere to make Earth Day 2010 the most successful Earth Day in history. * Read the Earth Day Blog to learn more about how you can help and the important issues and challenges facing our Earth. * Check out the resources on the official Earth Day site at http://www.earthday.net/node/88 and create an Event using "Earth Day in a Box". * Post an Action Badge on Your Blog and spread the word about the importance of Earth Day 2010.
