Run for Water 2010

6km is the average distance women and children walk every day in the developing world to have access to water. Currently, close to one billion people don’t have access to clean, safe drinking water (one in eight). 1.8 million people die every year from water-related diarrheal diseases. Ninety percent of those are children under five years of age. 443 million school days are missed due to water-related diarrheal diseases. Fifty percent of malnutrition is caused by water-related diarrheal diseases This is why we run. I participated in the Dow Live Earth Run for water 2010 on 18th April to support the cause. Money raised from the event will go towards funding water purification and filtration solutions around the world.

The United Nations General Assembly will be holding a High-level Plenary Meeting, also referred to as the ‘MDG Summit’ in New York. The Summit’s main focus will be to build on what we have learned during the past 10 years since the adoption of the Millennium Declaration and how to accelerate progress towards the internationally agreed development goals, in particular MDGs. The Summit will take stock of the successes, best practices, lessons learned, obstacles and gaps related to the MDGs and other development goals. Planting "Fossil" Seedlings - My Earth Day 2010

I feel great pride in this big blue planet of ours. I have a big interest in paleontology and wanted to tie my interests into my contribution back to our glorious planet. It took some thinking but I've decided to grow Ginko and Metasequoia seedlings, both with a long lineage and long though extinct until one wonderful day with modern species were discovered. So, I've marked Earth Day 2010 on my calendar and will plant my "fossil" seedlings in a special ceremony, giving back both life and a cleaner atmosphere.
