Is being heard enough?

I think it's a very good start. It'll help get the message that the Earth is actually important into the public consciousness. But I also think individuals - you, me, everyone else - need to start actively thinking about what more we can do.

Not just in terms of ensuring various governments start to listen, but in terms of solving the core problems ourselves.

For example, this entire site is a conscious attempt to actually do something, and that type of 'get stuck in and do it' attitude is great. Well done, guys.

Brian, what can we do to make a positive impact? We have amazing technology that when combined with empowering messages can motivate people to act. How does one create that "magic" message that resonates and inspires many to act? It's as though we are in mass denial that life on the earth is being threatened.

I'm not sure that one magic message is enough. In modern history, there are only a few speeches that have ever truly inspired the masses; to aim for that is a grand goal, but it's much more likely to happen given a concerted, long-term effort.

And it is happening. Everywhere you look, people are more and more aware of the issues. The bit that's missing is, as you mentioned, the translation of that awareness into action.

I'm not sure that many people know what they can actually do. Giving them that knowledge - and the practical tools they can use - is therefore the key.

So true. Your words resonate with me. Let's keep sharing our knowledge, coming up with practical tools and taking consistent action.

Earth Day 2009, April 22, will mark the beginning of the Green Generation Campaign!

This two-year initiative will culminate with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. With negotiations for a new global climate agreement coming up in December, Earth Day 2009 must be a day of action and civic participation, to defend the Green Generation’s core principles: Family with windmills: Renewable energy for future generations.
