What I regret...

What I regret is the stark contrast between the Bloggers Unite success of last year and the just a few participating in the current events.

Earth Day and World Water Day for example are big and important events. How come we can only gather a few hundreds, versus a few thousand blogs (last year events)...

Is it because Bloggers Unite just came out of Beta? Are there too little efforts to go viral (e.g. we blog about Earth Day, but there is little reference to Bloggers Unite).

No, I am not paid or associated with Bloggers Unite. But I think it showed to be an excellent tool to amass the vaste resource of millions of active bloggers for a good cause. We can not let this tool slip...

Hey Peter,

Right now, BloggersUnite.org is very much a collection of new member coordinated efforts and events, which is part of its intent. So, I think what we haven't had a benefit of seeing like last year has a been a real coordinated effort, which is literary right around the corner.

So you see, in addition to allowing people to promote their events on this site, will be three BlogCatalog-member driven and coordinated efforts every year, much in the same manner we have since its inception in 2007.

In theory, the idea is two-fold here. Host main events like always, but also allow anyone to share local, national, and international events thereby allowing bloggers to pick and choose additional events that they may want to support. Overtime, we'll help bloggers who want to manage their own event tap best practice resources as well.

By the way, you might also be interested to know that no one is paid by Bloggers Unite. We're all just doing our part to make the world a better place! I hope we can count on you to be part of our first main event when we announce it in the next week!

All my best,
Rich

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts, because frankly, I agree with you.

Glad we are on the same page, Rich. (even up to the level I am not paid for this neither haha).

I understand better now. Tnx for taking the time to explain. I hope the social driven events take off as well as the Blogcatalog staff driven ones.

Of course you can count on me to further spread new events for a good cause. We all do our part in the world!

Earth Day 2009, April 22, will mark the beginning of the Green Generation Campaign!

This two-year initiative will culminate with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. With negotiations for a new global climate agreement coming up in December, Earth Day 2009 must be a day of action and civic participation, to defend the Green Generation’s core principles: Family with windmills: Renewable energy for future generations.
