I have 3 preemies

Our triplets were born at 31 weeks and spent a tad over a month in the NICU. It was the hardest time of our lives and many tears were shed. We are lucky and have very healthy 16 month olds now but our journey will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers go out every night for those babies fighting to survive.

My preemies

by: lilliesmom

My daughter was our first preemie. She was born at only 26 weeks gestation weighing only 2 pounds and was 14 inches long. My son was our second preemie. He was born at only 28 weeks gestation weighing 2 pounds 9 ounces and was 14 1/2 inches long. Today they are 5 and 3 1/2 and doing great! It was a long journey but was all worth it. We remember every day how blessed our family is to have our babies! They still do not have a reason for why I delivered them both so early. I have started my blog so if you are interested in our story go to jenfuller.blogspot.com/. Thanks to all of you who joined to fight for preemies!!

Miracle Baby Girl

Our second daughter was born this March, at 26 weeks + 2 days. The weeks of bedrest before her arrival felt helpless. Even more desperate, were many of the 88 days in the NICU that followed her birth. Thanks to the outstanding medical care of the loving doctors and nurses, she left the hospital before her due date. We continue to be amazed by her daily progress and unbelievable spirit. She is our truest miracle.

The strongest among us

I'm young, in high school still, and I'm not a mother so I can't sympathise in quite the same way that the parents on here can but I can't help but say something about the Preemie in my life. Jonathan Robert, my cousin, was born on November 3, 2006 at 6:23 p.m. He was born at 23 weeks, weighed 1 pound and nine and a half ounces, and was less than a foot long. He spent nearly five, long, months in the NICU and I spent nearly five months waiting every night for the update his parents called to give us.

A couple of weeks ago, Johnathan celebrated his third birthday. He's an amazing little boy. He's almost normal for a three year old. He has no real physical problems outside of being a little small and having to wear glasses already. He talks only marginally less than any normal three year old and he's actually rather intelligent for his age.

I'm not really a religious person, and I apologise if that offends anyone, but even I can't call this little boy, or any of the other Preemies of the world, anything less than little miracles.

My son was born 6 weeks early, due to preeclampsia. I have 2 other children and was oblivious to the world of preemies. It was so scary for our family. Our son is now 8 months old, and the happiest baby ever. He spent 19 days in the NICU. It is so emotionally difficult to see the babies and families in the NICU. We were lucky...our son came home with us. Not all babies do. Please do what you can to support your local March of Dimes chapter. This is a fight that we can win! God bless the NICU team and the perinatal team. I will never be able to express my gratitude.

Fight for Preemies!

My husband and I lost our son in April, due to Preeclampsia. Jake was born at 23 weeks and 2 days. He stayed strong for us for nine days, then we had to say goodbye. This has been the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with in my life. I miss our son Jake everyday, and I hope one day there will be more solutions for Preeclampsia. We love you Jake and Miss You!
Love you!

My daughter was a January (instead of March) baby, born at 5'6", went down to 4'2", came home in 3 1/2 weeks at almost 5 lb. -- in 1966. My granddaughter (her niece) was born in December 2008 in her 29th week of gestation at 1'4", came home in 3 months at 4+ pounds.

GOD BLESS THE NICU NURSES ... and the incredible enriched infant formulas. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who research neonate issues and who serve the neonates. %^)

Every year, 20 million babies are born too soon, too small and very sick ― half a million of them in the United States. November 17 is when we fight.

Do you know a baby that was born too soon, too small, unable to suck, unable to breathe on his own? Premature birth is a health crisis that jeopardizes the lives and health of nearly half-million babies each year. It is the #1 killer of newborns and can lead to lifelong disabilities. Worse: the number has increased 31 percent since 1981. It can happen without warning and for no known reason. Until we have more answers, anyone’s baby, could be born too soon. Medical advances give even the tiniest babies a chance of survival, yet for many babies premature birth is still a life or death condition. It’s the #1 cause of death during the first month of life. And babies who survive face serious health challenges and risk lifelong disabilities. The rate of premature birth has never been higher. In half the cases, we simply don’t understand what went wrong. We need to fight for answers. And, ultimately, preventions. November 17 is dedicated to raising awareness of the crisis of premature birth. The March of Dimes invites bloggers like you to get involved. • Learn about premature birth at marchofdimes.com/fightforpreemies • Put a badge on your blog during November, Prematurity Awareness Month® • On November 17, blog for a baby you love and to help others We need to fight ― because babies shouldn’t have to. .............................................................................
