My littlle 33 wkrs.

by: yvonnemaire82

I am in total amazment the we have over 400 members on this site. Both of my kids were born premature at 33 wks. My daughter was born on 4th July 2007 weighing 4.1 lbs and 16.5 in long. She was in the NICU for eleven days breathing on her own, a feeding tube and had a little bit of jaundice for a couple days. She is now 3 yr old and is acting like any typical preschooler. My son was also born the same wk gestation, (33 wks) but he was 4.10 lbs and was 17 3/4 in long. He was in the NICU for 18 days and he was experiencing the same thing just like his sister. Breathing on his own, feeding tube and jaundice too. He is almost 2 yrs old and he is just so amazing, happy and acts like any toddler. But most of all he looks up to his big sister and would do the things that she does. I'm so glad that they are here a part of min and my husbands life. I don't know how we would be if they hadn't made into this world. I would most definitely thank March of Dimes for all the hard work that they do in order to achieve for every baby be born full term and healty. Every baby needs to be given a healthy start.

MY SWEETIPIE!

11/17/09

by: sweetmumma

Hi! My daughter was born almost 1 year ago (it's her first brithday on Friday). She was 12 weeks early and weighed in at just over 2lb. She contracted a number of complications including meningitis and was sick for many weeks. Due to many prayers and the dedicated doctors and nurses who cared for her, my Sweetipie survived, although we were told she may well suffer with a number of problems.
TODAY she had her 9 month check from the health visitor (corrected age, of course!) and passed with flying colours. She has confounded all expectations and is doing just brilliantly. She is an absolute joy to my husband and I and her big brother (although he may disagree, as she's started to steal his toys!!!).
Well done March of Dimes for all you do for these wonderful kids.
ps. if you'd like to read Sweetiepie's amazing story on full you can find it at viewfromtheplaypen.wordpress.com/about/sweetiepies-story/

To my 2 precious preemies

11/17/09

by: payi77

My first daughter was born at 36 weeks on 2005, 4.10 pounds, two months ago my second child was born at 32 week, 3.08 pounds. Thank god both of them are really healthy, but it is very difficult to bring home a preemie. We can not underestimate anything during our pregnancies. Taking good care is not enough, especially if you've had a first premature baby. Please, take pregnacy very seriously and take care of the expectant moms around you.

Health Accompanies Wealth According to Los Angeles Study

Map of Los Angeles showing premature births and prenatal care by county. bit.ly/2FHTy9

In a news article written by journalists Deborah Stokol on bit.ly/2Ca9It

"As long as she is pregnant, a woman living in the United States may receive medical care. So even the homeless, the undocumented, “the tired [and] poor,” may visit a doctor while expecting.

Yet for the inhabitants of Los Angeles County, health continues to accompany wealth. L.A.’s southernmost areas sustain the highest rates of premature births, gestational diabetes and hypertension in the county.

Every pregnant woman residing there may attain prenatal care, but for many, that is either not enough to reverse years’ worth of physical negligence, its acquisition still does little to provide them with the attention they need or they do not seek that care in the first place. ...

This tribute to preemies comes at a really good time for me - my oldest son was born November 18th, 1992 - eight weeks early.

It's hard to believe my preemie will be 17 tomorrow.

I've written a tribute to him here: bit.ly/4yMWyU

Every year, 20 million babies are born too soon, too small and very sick ― half a million of them in the United States. November 17 is when we fight.

Do you know a baby that was born too soon, too small, unable to suck, unable to breathe on his own? Premature birth is a health crisis that jeopardizes the lives and health of nearly half-million babies each year. It is the #1 killer of newborns and can lead to lifelong disabilities. Worse: the number has increased 31 percent since 1981. It can happen without warning and for no known reason. Until we have more answers, anyone’s baby, could be born too soon. Medical advances give even the tiniest babies a chance of survival, yet for many babies premature birth is still a life or death condition. It’s the #1 cause of death during the first month of life. And babies who survive face serious health challenges and risk lifelong disabilities. The rate of premature birth has never been higher. In half the cases, we simply don’t understand what went wrong. We need to fight for answers. And, ultimately, preventions. November 17 is dedicated to raising awareness of the crisis of premature birth. The March of Dimes invites bloggers like you to get involved. • Learn about premature birth at marchofdimes.com/fightforpreemies • Put a badge on your blog during November, Prematurity Awareness Month® • On November 17, blog for a baby you love and to help others We need to fight ― because babies shouldn’t have to. ............................................................................. El 17 de noviembre estará dedicado a crear conciencia sobre la crisis del nacimiento prematuro.
