Homelessness Action Day
http://www.actionweek.org.uk/html/home.html
September 26, 2013
Objective:
Bloggers Unite on one day of Poverty & Homelessness Action week to raises awareness and challenge each other to end homelessness and poverty
While you're snuggled up in bed there are millions of people around the glob using sidewalks as their pillows.
Many organisations are making a difference as part of this years Action Week 2013 and Bloggers will Unite too.
Many different types of people end up homeless: homeless children, adults, elderly people - and all for very different reasons.
The Poverty and Homelessness Action Week shares more informative facts on homelessness. Homelessness has come very close to home, if not "hit home" for many of us during this recession. There are things we can do to bring people home. It starts first with raising awareness, then solutions and then implementation of those solutions. Each blog post written about this distressing crisis can change a life for the better.
The theme for 2013 is "Can you cast the first stone?".
We are being challenged to think about why people are in these situations. We know, "it's not always their fault," and we need to recognise this and the many causes.
Homelessness, among other life events, results from
* a relationship break up,
* mental distress or the
* consequence of the economic climate.
The event organisers want us each to acknowledge that a 'blame culture is not the way to make things better'. Let's focus on solutions because for the most part, the homelessness have done nothing to be blamed for. They need our help.
Everyday people, whether they are poor or homeless come up against barriers in their lives. Our world is so full of barriers and they stop us from understanding one another.
Non profits, churches and community organization volunteers work tirelessly to break the barriers and challenge prejudice against those who are excluded from society.
There are many ways you can get involved!
You could integrate Homelessness Sunday on 26 January 2013 into your usual Sunday Service, go to where the homeless are in your town and share some food and talk to them. Encourage others to do the same. If you have experienced homelessness in your life, blog about it.
Alternatively, you could hold an event in your business, or other organization, to bring your community together and raise money to donate to end homelessness.
You can also help by registering by email, or joining the group's Facebook and Twitter pages. And you can always offer a donation to help with the work of the group.
