Animal rights in New Zealand

"A total of 318,489 living animals were used for animal research (vivisection) in New Zealand last year. The most recent national figures available reveal 757 cats and 682 dogs were used in 2006. The use of cats and dogs for research has doubled since 2001. Most laboratory animals will suffer. Many will die. None will be loved. If they are lucky, their death will be quick and painless, but most won't be so lucky..... "Most animal research in New Zealand is aimed at increasing the profits of the meat and dairy industries. 38 per cent of the animals used in 2005 were used by commercial researchers. A further 21 per cent were used by government departments and crown research institutes. The remaining 41 per cent were used in experiments at universities and schools. In 2005, only 4.8 per cent were used in medical research. Animal research in this country is shrouded in secrecy. Although most of the research is funded with public money, few details are released. The National Animal Ethics Advisory Committee (NAEAC) releases a bland annual report every year assuring us that everything is fine and that the New Zealand regulatory system is one of the best in the world. They say animals are used only when it is absolutely necessary, and that all possible steps are taken to prevent unnecessary and cruel research. This is simply not true. Painful mutilations, electric shocks, lethal toxicological procedures, cutting, freezing and burning - even without pain relief - are legal. Many laboratory animals are forcibly restrained to undergo cruel experiments that you would never allow your beloved animal companion to endure." (quote from SAFE) Help put a stop to this torture.

Animals should not be a prey of atrocities forever.

Animals are our friend. Some of them live with us and others in forests due to their nature. But greedy we love to present cruel against them. By this way their rights are violating everyday. So the question is, how long be their rights violated? We should ponder over the question and organise mass awareness campaigns. Use of animal to create various luxury items should be mitigated immediately. We should raise our voice to protect animal rights.

I used to work for Nashville Humane Association when I lived in Tennessee, so I've seen first hand the horrors of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect. As an avid animal lover and advocate, this event is right up my alley. I'll do what I can now to spread the word and ask other bloggers to write about this topic for the event. A specific issue I'd like to touch upon is the atrocities being done the American Pit Bull Terrier. Breed Specific Legislation is WRONG and PETA are a bunch of morons! They are not for animals at all, in fact just the opposite. Anyone who follows or supports PETA is not fully aware of what they do and how they actually harm instead of help. Let's stop the insanity and get people to realize that the Pit Bull Terrier is actually a fantastic dog - one of the most docile, loyal, friendly, protective, trustworthy breeds in existence. It is the idiotic dog owners (if you can even call them that) that have slowly destroyed the reputation of this breed and in essence will secure it's own genocide.

I truely believe, Animal Rights should be every Day....When I was younger...Myself and a good friend(who has passed away work long and hard for animal rights and I know she would be so happy to see How much is still being done . weather it be through fund raisers, or hands on working with animals froms small kittens to large wild Cats... Amanda (Blake) myself and many others worked many tired long hours And I just so happy to see that so many have kept the cause going.. These Animals need our Help...

Voice Your Opinion on Cruelty to Animals

We talk about cruelty and terrorism to human race but what about the animals who are being ill treated and are killed for there furs to prepare fancy clothes for us here I am putting up some images and a video please have a look at them. I suggest you don't watch this clip however, signatures are URGENTLY required. I started to watch but had to stop. I would like to join this event, but..probably by chance, this event is in the exact day of the Human Rights Day, organized by Amnesty International and I´ve already joined to it. It would be hard to write about this who important matters...
