Our little boat traveled through the waters of a remote river in Northern Vietnam during the spring of 2002. We traveled through the bends of the river into a tiny village where our tourist group spent the night. We spent the night with a happy family, who cooked for us, and who showed us what it was like to be live in remote Vietnam. There was no running water. They cooked over an open flame. I Have Blogged About The Index Librorum Prohibitorum ("List of Prohibited Books"). The Index Librorum Prohibitorum ("List of Prohibited Books") is a list of publications which the Catholic Church censored for being a danger to itself and the faith of its members. The various editions also contain the rules of the Church relating to the reading, selling and censorship of books. The aim of the list was to prevent the reading of immoral books or works containing theological errors and to prevent the corruption of the faithful. The list was not simply a reactive work. Catholic authors had the possibility to defend their writings and could prepare a new edition with the necessary corrections or elisions either to avoid or to limit a ban. Pre-publication censorship was encouraged...

Literacy should be a right for all. So many people of the world are still illiterate! Every illiterate adult of the globe should be literate. To pay heed on this issue mass awareness camps and campaigns should be organised. We can take venture individually to literate atleast an adult. Thus the day may be observed literally.

I want my country should become 100% literate, for which it becomes more than a responsibilty for a good citizen to spread the power of literacy to each & every corner of the world. Government should amend some policies to acheive it. It should make the law as to take the benefit of the governement one must be literate & to start more & more to start school on the transport. It has to take the help of the private concerns who beleive that it is the responsilbility.

When I look at the global statistics on literacy, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Unesco says, "Today one in five adults is still not literate and two-thirds of them are women while 75 million children are out of school." My own literacy has been so important to me - reading, writing and communicating bring me pleasure, educate me, allow me to collaborate with people across the world. So what must it be like not to have access to literacy? And what on earth can I do about it? Any journey, however long, starts with small steps. Sharing a love of literacy and spreading the word about the importance of literacy is something we can do through our blogs, our communities, and via organizations dedicated to improving literacy. We can also make literacy a habit in our own homes. Reading and writing in front of our kids is important so that they will see how much we value those activities. Reading aloud is such a fun way of celebrating literacy! We can do that with our own kids, or volunteer at a nearby school, or even one in another country. Making literacy a daily habit in our own lives is often just a matter of remembering. Read and Write as its being described in Computer Systems being these two Letters 'RW' gives a right to the User to Read / Write on an Object. Same goes for Human Being if you Read and Write it means you have an authorative power over those who don't have it in general. Have we considered the Inequallity in opportuntiy ... that retain this power for some rather than others... HAVE WE?

One of the Best Gifts in Life

For me, i love reading and i always felt that one of the best gifts in life is the gift of books. Yet, i have taken literacy for granted. Without literacy, i wouldn't have discovered my love for reading, and the joy, empowerment and satisfaction it gives. I grew up in the seventies, lived in a kampong and my family was not rich. Yet today, i am a well read, well travelled, happy and confident gal, working in a male dominated industry and can hold my own among the boys through my own abilities. I think education and literacy plays a role in forming who i am today. Cheers to Internationally Literacy Day and may literacy touches the life of many more people around the world.
