Hi, I am mark roger. International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. The first IWD was observed on 19 March 1911 in Germany following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. The idea of having an international women's day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions.

A Woman

11/20/10

by: Rachana

She walked someones footsteps
She talked praise for someone
She laughed at someones jokes
She felt disgusted at someones sin

But she always cried for herself
And one day she died for herself

And they said
She was a GOOD WOMAN
...........................................
She took her own path
She laughed at her own mistakes
She talked
But was not a wall that gave echoes

She cried of grief at times
But her tears were bold
More bold than herself
And she lived a life for herself

And then they said
She is a BAD WOMAN
...........................................
When I met her face to face
She asked me-
"Who are they,
Is it me or you? "
I had no answer
But then I knew her name
A woman she was..
A real woman...

by: briandrpm

What the Millennium Development Goal No. 3 Gender Equity is trying to achieve is made manifest in the celebration of International Women's Day. This post is in support of the International Women's Day online event being sponsored by BloggersUnite member BlogCatalog. This is suppose to be my contribution for this day but for some reason the site says that my url was already submitted, a bit confusing. anewmillennium.blogspot.com/2010/02/international-womens-day.html

Women's Rights are as Important as Air

2/04/10

by: drjalee52

We must all move to a level of human understanding where everyone is truly appreciated for the beauty and joy that is found in life. Everyone is of tremendous value and gender is not the barrier that was made for no reason that makes any sense. We need women's rights just like we need air.

by: naveed2009

Marie Stopes Society has commemorated International Women’s Day 2009 by “Free Camp” activity on more than 80 districts of Pakistan by providing free services.

Marie Stopes Society (MSS) is a Social Enterprise working to provide choices in Reproductive Healthcare and helping to alleviate the root cause of many of the socio-economic problems in Pakistan. MSS provides comprehensive reproductive health information and services that include mother & child health and family planning services.

MSS has launched a bilingual (English and Urdu) interactive website (www.srhmatters.org) for creating awareness about the sexual and reproductive health rights amongst the youth and adult population. The SRHMatters.org will also provide FREE online councilor advice and professional advice by a doctor especially on sexual and reproductive health issues. Another initiative of MSS is a Toll Free Service helpline (0800 22333) all over the country on SRH issues. Anyone with access to a telephone anywhere within Pakistan can call up the MSS toll free number for counseling and referrals.

We would appreciate your comments and suggestions to make the SRHMatters.org more informative to the viewers.

IWD is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

Started as a political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries (primarily Russia and the countries of former Soviet bloc). In some celebrations, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love to the women around them in a way somewhat similar to Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day mixed together. In others, however, the political and human rights theme as designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. The IWD is also celebrated as the first spring holiday, as in the listed countries the first day of March is considered the first day of the spring season.
