Hi, I am mark roger. International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. The first IWD was observed on 19 March 1911 in Germany following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. The idea of having an international women's day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions.

She walked someones footsteps
She talked praise for someone
She laughed at someones jokes
She felt disgusted at someones sin

But she always cried for herself
And one day she died for herself

And they said
She was a GOOD WOMAN
...........................................
She took her own path
She laughed at her own mistakes
She talked
But was not a wall that gave echoes

She cried of grief at times
But her tears were bold
More bold than herself
And she lived a life for herself

And then they said
She is a BAD WOMAN
...........................................
When I met her face to face
She asked me-
"Who are they,
Is it me or you? "
I had no answer
But then I knew her name
A woman she was..
A real woman...

Harassment, sexual violence, mental tension, everything is same. The only change that is visible is that now these things cannot go unnoticed.

Now the statistics do not increase rather the volume of these cries have become really bold and loud. Women are now all set to shed this wrong habit of so called tolerance. She has been told by this religion and male dominated society since ages, "Tolerate! But don't say a word, you will lose your prestige and place; we would not lose anything because we are males!" Religion was never with women. Right from the Vedic era to today's constitution there are hundreds and hundred pages written on female equality and devotion to her. Reality tells a different story; so far all the way it is only a glorified paradox.

Do you wonder why is it that only women are expected to (and love to) sacrifice in all situations. If there is less of something, the woman will be the first to refuse it. If someone has to give up work for home responsibility, it has to be the woman. If someone has to wake up in the nights to change baby nappies, it has to be the woman (even if working). If the husband and wife like to watch different things on the telly, usually the husband's wishes will prevail. So on and so forth.

Internationally, March has been declared Women’s History Month highlighting women’s achievements, roles and contributions in the effort towards equality between women and men worldwide. The Status of Women Canada announced the theme for 2009 as ‘Strong Leadership. Strong Women. Strong World. Equality.’ See the web page here,

http://www.cfc-swc.gc.ca/dates/iwd-jif/index-eng.html

It is equally important for men to be involved in the celebration of the women in their lives and to recognize these women for the equal partners they are.

I am proud to be raising four very strong, independent daughters who are clearly leaders of their generation. Over the years, they have been exposed to many powerful and passionate female role models ranging from school principals to reverends, and most importantly, mothers. I do include myself here, but the list is long in our family of strong independent matriarchs that struggle for the life they want while remaining the nurturing mother too.

As a Canadian, I like to explore those female role models that have made contributions to the movement of equality in our country. We have made great strides, though there is still movement necessary in order to close the gender gap. For a great list of some famous Canadians worth celebrating click on the following link;

A first reading of my poem In the Name of Gaia takes place on International Women’s Day, March 8th, at the Town Hall in Bloomfield Ontario from 2-4pm. The works of other commendable female contributors will also be displayed and read with a print version to follow.

Stand tall.
Peace.

Woman are the first teachers. When we are born we do not reach out for anything because its our mother who is the one who civilizes us to become better in our everyday activities in the essentals of life. This is why the woman is so sacred. She's to be protected because there is no such thing as a no good woman. When you see a no good woman its because she standing next to a no good man that made her no good. What do you mean? The first example for a young girl to know what it is to understand & determine a role model in a man is her father. If there is no father present & she grows up in a single parent house hold she would never understand what it is to have a good man. Why? Her father would show her by example what it is to be a good man. So when she wonders off into life she may make wrong choices in men. Remember we don't attract what we want we attract who we are. This is why a nation can't rise no higher than its woman. She holds the bearing of life in her womb. If you want to know a nation look at its women. They will determine the outcome of the society by their actions. She is like the moon. She has the magnetic attraction to either build or destroy. This is why she must always be protected & guarded from the poison mentallity of men who want to abuse them & have them do things they wouldn't do if they knew what it is to know what a man is. He is her maintainer & protector. I honor the woman because my mother & Grandmother (RIP) were examples of what I wanted for a wife.
