Relay For Life

June 26, 2009

Objective:
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity.

Relay For Life is the largest nonprofit event IN THE WORLD! Relay offers everyone in a community an opportunity to celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a rep on the track at all times. Relay is an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length. The celebration of survivorship brings communities together to learn about and raise moeny for the fight against cancer.

A team of 8 to 15 people works to raise money for the American Cancer Society, then participate in the overnight relay. Each community's Relay For Life is special, but it's greater power lies in the synergy created from all the Relays taking place nationwide. In 2009, more than 5,000 communities will hold an American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
