World AIDS Day

2/10/10

by: allinejore

5 cents of every "hand-crafted" drink will go towards AIDS prevention in Africa? Cheap.

Give me a break. They'll get all the bleeding-heart liberals in there though and women who think they can singlehandedly change the world!

World Aids Day

12/01/09

by: daniellem

December 1st is World Aids Day. I decided to create a poster and a few thumbnails for it. It is a global disease that does not discriminate. Prevention and education are important components to stop the spread. Be safe. I hope one day their will be a cure.-Danielle

Last year I missed blogging for this event. Today, I joined with millions around the globe and I feel glad I participated. I donate and I pray for those whose lives have been invaded by this horrid disease. May blessings and restored health be theirs.

AIDS hit my family

12/01/09

by: readithere

When my cousin Vic died from AIDS, he looked ancient and skeletal. I still have nightmares. He was a kind and loving person who is greatly missed.

Until this happened in my own family, the closest AIDS had gotten to me was the articles I wrote for the newspaper. When it's that far from you, it doesn't have an effect on you.

Since his death, however, I've followed treatments and research in the news and now I blog in events like this in hopes of raising the awareness of others.

I feel the pain of losing him will not be soothed until I know that no other family will have to endure this. Yes, I understand this is unlikely but I must continue to hope and pray nonetheless.

World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.

HIV/AIDS has been a global epidemic for more than 27 years. Most of today's youth have never known a world without it. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently published national HIV incidence (new infections) that showed much higher numbers that previous estimates. The time is now. Together, we can prevent the spread of this pandemic – through awareness, care, prevention, education and research. On December 1st, individuals and organizations will recognize World AIDS Day. This year’s theme is leadership – from all sectors, including government, but also leaders among individuals and families, communities, non-profits and other organizations. The question is not should you participate, but how can you? Both NIDA and AIDS.gov recognize the leadership of Bloggers Unite and invite bloggers to join them in their mission to prevent and stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
