The Origin of World Kindness Movement from one of it's Founders
Celebrating a Decade of Kindness...
Dear World Kindness Family,
A decade ago, Dr. Mori and the Small Kindness Movement of Japan dared to envision a kinder world beyond the borders of their own country. Like modern day pioneers, the SKM gathered like-minded organizations from Singapore, UK, Canada, South Korea and the USA, to explore new possibilities - to form a global kindness network!
From this initial conference in Tokyo, a spark was ignited! The basic objective, in preparation for the 21st century, "to ensure peace on earth through small kindnesses." In a joint declaration, the representatives pledged to spread the spirit of these meetings not only through their home countries but also through a united international voice!
Much has happened over the past ten years. The World Kindness Movement was formed in 1997, World Kindness Day was established and five more conferences were hosted! Most wonderfully, the World Kindness Movement has a Secretariat based in Singapore and has grown to nineteen countries!!!
There is much to celebrate on November 13th, 2006! Our global mission to connect individuals and countries to create a kinder and more compassionate world is evolving in so many interesting ways. The vibrancy and love that emanates from each and every act of kindness, committed in each country, has an immeasurable ripple effect that is felt around the world!
Let us thank Dr. Mori and the Small Kindness Movement of Japan for their powerful belief that by joining hands worldwide to sustain and promote human kindness, we can all make a positive difference on this planet that we call "home!"
"When we are devoted to the development of kindness….it becomes a movement of the heart so deep and subtle it is like a movement of the sea close to the ocean floor, all but hidden yet affecting absolutely everything that happens above. That's the force of kindness." - Sharon Saltzberg
Happy World Kindness Day!!!!
Sincerely,

World Kindness Day
Let's write about stories of kindness and the difference it has made in your life so we can transform and inspire others to join us.
The Origin of World Kindness Day: World Kindness Day evolved from a series of conferences in 1996-1997 in Japan by a group known as the World Kindness Movement. These conferences brought together groups interested in promoting more kindness around the world. It culminated in the "Declaration of Kindness" on November 13,1997. With this declaration, a new and very special day was born. I would like to have World Kindness - Wouldn't it be great? My kindness challenge is that everyone commit to performing Random Acts of Kindness, on this very day, and then blog about it. I challenge other Bloggers to to participate and truly make a difference by performing "random acts of kindness" or "paying it forward." Where did the concept of Random Acts of Kindness originate" "Established in 1995 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization, The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is a resource for people committed to spreading kindness. We provide a wide variety of materials on our website, including activity ideas, lesson plans, project plans, teacher’s guide, project planning guide, publicity guide, and workplace resources on our website at http://www.actsofkindness.org – all free of charge."
