World Suicide Prevention Day
September 10, 2009
Objective:
For public awareness, to encourage commitment to the preserving of lives so suicide can be prevented.
World Suicide Prevention Day will be celebrated again on September 10, 2010.
It is our second annual event at Bloggers Unite.
The day is celebrated every year and promotes worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. This year the theme is : " Many faces. Many Places- Suicide Prevention Across The World"
The event provides an opportunity to remind people that suicide is influenced by cultural, religious, legal, historical, philosophical and traditional factors.
Suicide is a leading cause of death for people under 25 . Every year 1 million people die each year of suicide.
We at Bloggers Unite have the opportunity , because of the diversity of the members to join with IASP and WHO to focus public attention on suicide across the world.
With the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), WHO and other partners advocate for the prevention of suicidal behaviour, provision of adequate treatment and follow-up care for people who attempted suicide, as well as responsible reporting of suicides in the media.
World Suicide Prevention Day activities at Bloggers Unite will be focusing on this year's theme
Members will be writing posts on suicide or suicide prevention in their part of the world.
The organizer is a registered nurse in Ontario, Canada.

7/26/10 Drug-induced suicides must also be prevented
by: Ana
Drug induced suicides are a fact and has caused fatalities among teenagers and the adult population all over the world.
Antidepressants SSRIs - like Prozac /Paxil-Seroxat/ Zoloft/ Effexor/ Cymbalta and many others - are the cause of many suicides and violent behavior.
Please, if you are concerned with this problem join the event "International Day in Memory of SSRI Fatalities".
Thank you.

I was wondering when I'd stumble on something like this. I think the celebration day also reminds me of a girl's birthday who I used to have a crush on in high school. I think World Suicide Prevention Day is a great idea. We need like minded people to support each other.
