World Suicide Prevention Day
http://www.iasp.info/wspd/inde…
For public awareness, to encourage committment to the preserving of lives so suicide can be prevented.
World Suicide Prevention Day will be celebrated on September 10, 2009. The day is celebrated every year and promotes worldwide committment and action to prevent suicides. This year the theme is : " Suicide Prevention in Different Cultures" The event provides an opportunity to remind people that suicide is influenced by cultural, religious, legal, historical, philosophical and traditional factors. Suicide is a leading cause of death for people under 25 . Every year 1 million people die each year of suicide. We at Bloggers Unite have the opportunity , because of the diversity of the members to join with IASP and WHO to focus public attention on the unacceptable burden and costs of suicidal behaviour. With the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), WHO and other partners advocate for the prevention of suicidal behaviour, provision of adequate treatment and follow-up care for people who attempted suicide, as well as responsible reporting of suicides in the media. World Suicide Prevention Day activities at Bloggers Unite will be focusing on prevention in the different cultures. Members will be writing posts on suicide prevention in their country or culture for that day. The organizer is a registered nurse in Ontario, Canada.
