Hadley Thom

Hadley Thom is the Events Director at Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN). Hadley is responsible for fundraising and planning for all AFAN events, including the AIDS Walk and the Black & White Party. These events not only create awareness and garner support in the community, but they also provide essential private dollars, so that AFAN is able to maintain consistent services. Hadley joined AFAN in July 2007 as a case manager. From 2006 to 2007, she taught English at a private English institute in Busan, South Korea. Hadley attended the University of Canterbury in Christchurch in New Zealand from 2003 to 2006, where she obtained her BA in English and International Health and Development. She has also taught English and History in New Zealand. Hadley has long strived to use her education and experience to better the lives of those affected by AIDS. In North Carolina, where she was born and raised, she encountered her first cultural misconceptions about AIDS. Her experiences there—and her experiences since—have committed her to focus on education and awareness as the foremost means to improving the disease’s cultural stigma and thus improving the status of the disease and the lives of those who live with it.
