World Suicide Prevention Day - September 10, 2010

Thank you bloggers for offering to increase suicide prevention awareness locally and worldwide by blogging about World Suicide Prevention Day and the need for greater suicide prevention awareness.

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) co-sponsor this event. This year, the IASP has prepared World Suicide Prevention Day banners in 36 languages. Please see: www.iasp.info/wspd/2010_wspd_banner.php. Please feel free to use a WSPD banner on your website.

You can also view planned activities throughout the world by visiting www.iasp.info/wspd/2010_wspd_activities.php. Activity descriptions are posted on the IASP as they arrive. Last year, 40 countries participated in World Suicide Prevention Day.

The WHO reports that on average, almost 3000 people commit suicide daily. For every person who completes a suicide, 20 or more may attempt to end their lives.
