JONATHAN CONIGLIARI is a New York City transplant. Leaving the quiet calm of mountainously cold Flagstaff, Arizona for the vibrant and cosmopolitan New York University, Jonathan graduated with a French and history double-major in 2009. Because Jonathan still did not have enough French in his life after receiving his BA, he decided to stay at New York University and pursue a French Studies master’s degree at the Institute of French Studies. He will graduate yet again in May 2010.
FOR YEARS, Jonathan knew that in addition to his logical mind, he was also an artist at heart. In the back of his head, there was always a nagging hope that he could create an artistic project centered around the beauty of the fire hydrant and its connection to our natural world. Finally, after a long day in his Lower East Side apartment spent thinking about how the underground infrastructure of hydrants function much in the same way as nature’s unifying factors, Jonathan decided to create and establish his original artistic idea in the form of a website. The resulting site - THE HYDRANT PROJECT - is what you see before you. It reveals the innermost passions of a person who truly believes that the beauty of the modern and natural worlds and the complexities found therein must be looked at in order to understand how they interrelate and speak to one another.
